Pounding my page:

I was just working on a new feature on my page now. It will show what browses most often visits my page. It will be in the right menu under the visitor counts. And I started with the easy part logging the different browsers. I took only 4 big browser brands and the beginning and said that the rest was other. There shouldn`t be too many of them anyway right?

Well not quite right. What about crawlers. Yeah, what about them crawlers. After working on some of the other functions to display the results I checked back to see what it had logged, and I got quite surprised. The majority is not IE, nor Firefox, and at least not Opera, but Others.

I bet 98% of these are crawlers. Why are they so many, or why do they want to fetch my front page so many times. Do they really need to do this? Does it help us that most of the web traffic these days are crawlers? Or does the spam bots just take a liking to my page? Well sometimes it really looks like they pick a favorite and keep on spamming that one, not because it is necessary, but because it is possible. Just take a look at Jesse Ruderman while he is out of town.

New host, new agenda:

Finaly I got my self a connection in the new appartment here in Norway. And on top of that I got my self a new host for this web page. Which in the end means I need to change a few things for the web page to work as it should be. And while I am on to that, why not throw in some new functionality while I am at it.

I will upload pictures from the last 2-3 months, as well as adding new script to the page, which in the end will mean some down time, and some links will not work at all time. Still hope you will stick around until everything is up and going again. Wish me luck, I think I`ll need it.

The King dropped by:

Easter just passed by, leaving me with nothing but what I will call a disaster. I didn`t manage to do half of what I was going to do, and now I need to really get my act together.

After finding an interesting article about Procrastination , I finally think I have found the solution to the problem that have started to build up the last few weeks. Already this Monday I have done more stuff then I have normally done in a few days lately, and I have more planned.

One of the things I did in a break today, was to finally get my thumb, out of my ass, and get the pictures of our Kings visit up in an album. Also notice that the Norwegian Queen is there, and our foreign minister "Jonas Gahr Støre" ++ where also visiting us this beautiful spring day here at CERN .

On an other side, an other friend have left CERN, and there is not many of us left now. Only 2 more months for me too to be honest. But what is a better way to say good bye from CERN then holding a small party . It was nice to meet you Björn, good luck in the future.

Party in the Norwegian camp:

And finally we have the pictures out. From probably the best party in Geneva in a long time. About 50 people where squeezed into the Norwegian camp and a lot of people where passing by writing the party right into Genevas history books.

Luckily for some and a night mare for the rest we had a camera there to document it all . Enjoy the pictures, I at least enjoyed the party. Thanks again for letting us use your flat as a play ground.

Updating picture album:

Believe it or not, I am finaly finding some time to do some cleaning in my picture forlders on my hard drives. Havn`t done that in a year, and after the hard drive crash last summer everything just got worse. But now I am getting somewhere. Still a long way to go, but getting there.

But as a start here is a totaly new picture album. I fogot to upload my own pictures, but now I have both uploaded my own pictures as well as one of my friends pictures. It is the new years eve pictures. Got some more pictures from a friend of mine. So now there should be enough to look at.

PS: The Norwegian King and Queen is comming here today. And I will get the change to meet them. Really looking forward too it. Will be fun to meet them in person. Never done that before. So maybe I will have some pictures of that later.

Embarrasing error:

What is more embarrasing then pointing out others fault , and then find out that you have your own error right in your lap. It took me untill today to understand that the new changes I did to the comments in the blogs made the comments not show up. And someone else had to point it out to me.

Well, I have fixed it now. It was mostly comments on the Flat Eric story that was not showing up. They are back now, and I even answered them. Hope this whole thing will teach me a thing or two..:)

Just want to celebrate a bit:

Just before the end of the month, 50k pageviws where reached. A lot thank to the Flat Eric picture album I posted yesterday. It added 2k extra pageviews in 12 hours. So it looks like people likes it.

Hope that some have liked the things I have been writing about the last few months. But don`t worry. I will keep on doing it no matter what you think about it.

Finaly here...again:

A few years ago, I had Flat Eric as my avatar on most forums I went to. Then I had this bright idea, that I could take pictures of Flat Eric in all sort of fun situations, and then post them on one of the forums. But the admins didn`t like that there was partly nudity and use of alcohol in some of the pictures, so I had to take them down again.

Now I have finaly found the time to upload them into one of my own albums. I have also added a comment under every picture so it forms a history (a sad history). You can check out the album under "pictures" in the menu or you can go directly to the first picture , and just press next to go to the new one. Enjoy.

New design...again...:

Am I the only one that are never happy with the design of my home page? I keep redoing and redoing my home page, but everything I am getting close to the finish line I realize that I don’t like the design, or the code is messy, or the page is not extendable enough, or something in that direction.

I am never sure if it is because I am a perfectionist or if it is because I don’t plan it enough. Probably a mix, first of all since I am no designer at all. I can’t draw a stick figure if my life depended on it. Hence the reason why I only have an arrow and one picture as a banner on this web page, and the rest is just text in more or less random colours.

But then again, it is not that bad either. And this time I have also made sure to use templates for the XHTML. That way it will be easier to change the layout the next time. I got Smarty recommended to me by a friend , and really liked it. I should probably blog about it an other day. It took me a few minutes to get into the habit, but the result is really good. Even if I now also see how I could have done it better :rolleyes: Which brings me back to the topic. Is it just me?

In a period there will be a couple of links not leading to anything. And a few that has the old style. Then I am mostly thinking about the tutorials and code snippets. I am not 100% sure how I want it yet. That is the biggest reason why I haven’t changed it yet. Not even sure if it should be changed. So until I find out, and find some time, hang in there.

Gameloop tutorial now ready:

Then a new tutorial is up. This time it was the simple gameloop tutorial for Visual Basic. It should get you up and running pretty fast on how to make a game loop that should be more then enough for most hobby games. It is fast, simple, and accurate enough for most types of games. So enjoy it, and please give me feedback if you have any. I take all feedback seriously.
I have also started to redesign my home page again. It is a bit more extreme this time, but still simple in a way. Hard to explain. I am still not happy with it, but this time I am taking the time to make nice templates for it, so it should not be that hard to change it in the future.
There will also be a few small new feautures on the page that will make it simpler to navigate. But I am still not sure about what to do with all the tutorials and sample code. So it might still take some time before it is up and running.
