General:
This extension was made for helping vBulletin users to post faster, cleaner, and with more fun. By marking text before you post, you can right click and chose formating, keyword highlight code, post smilies and a whole set of other common tasks on forums. There is more then vBulleting that support tags for posts, so the extension can in theory work for all forums, but they have to support the same tags as vBulletin. If not, they won't work, or at least not all of them. There can also be some differences in different installations of the vBulletin forum, but most of the functionality should work on all of them. The extension is made and tested on VBForums.com, so come and visit us if you have have ideas or questions.Syntax highlighting:
On coding forums like VBForums.com, people post code all the time. If they post a lot of code it can be hard to read compared to in your favorite editor. This extension allows you to get the same kind of keyword highlighting for many languages. Currently we support:
- C++
- Java
- Delphi
- C#
- Python
- JavaScript
Paste from clipboard:
Often you copy paste code from your own IDE, or quotes from a web page. Then it is irritating to first paste it into the text box on a forum, and then style it. So for the most used stylings we have made functions to copy and style directly from the clipboard. Currently we support:
- Code
- HTML
- Img
- PHP
- VB
Alignment:
This is maybe not the most upsed tags on a forum, but to style stickies and anouncements or sigs it is a great feauture. We support left, right, center and indent for text pictures and so on. Just note that the indent is indenting on both left and right side if you write big blocks of code.
Fonts and Font size:
You can also on most forums change the font. There is also a function to change font for your text. Just note that not all users that reads your posts have the same fonts installed. So it might not look exactly the same on all users screen. But if you use the most used fonts like Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New, Tahoma and so on you should be pretty safe. You can also change font size. But be carefull, big fonts can be pretty annoying for other users, and small fonts can be really hard to read. Remember, not all users have the sime screen size nor resolution as you.
Higlight text and text colour:
You can also manualy change colur of your text, or set background colour for your text. Many forums, supports setting colour for your text, but that is not the case for background colour. So be sure to check if it really works. If it doesn't you will just get the tags spelled out in stead of the desired effect.Font styles:
On most forums you can underline text, or make it bold or italic, we have of course also made functions for this as well as super script and subscript if you need that. All these functions you will find togheter with the text colouring and background colouring under "Font Style" in the right click menu.Smilies:
On default set up forums the amount of smilies you have is very limited. So we have added 60+ additional smilies in our extension. Just right click and choose what ever smilie you want, and a img tag with a link to the smilie will be added. You see the smilie right away after you have submitted the post. On most forums there is a maximum amount of smilies you can have in a post, so you can seldom post them all in one go, so that just means that you have to post more posts..;)Special effects:
By combining a few of the tags we have developed some nifty effects for you to use. We have added the possibility to post Rainbowed text, Rainbowed background for text, or a combination of the two. But since two of these effects relies on the background colour tag, they won't work on all forums. So test once before using it too much. You will just get the tags spelled out if they are not parsed by the page. If this is the case, then there is no way for you to get it work on that forum. Sorry.Console and Notes:
If you are a Linux user, you are probably using a console window (shell) a lot. If you want to post commands someone have to do to accomplish something, then there is also a function for you. Currently it only supports one line at a time, but we have experimented with different methods to get it to work with multiple lines. This will probabaly be added in the next version. There is also a function to style notes, you find it togheter with the console output and the special effects under "Nice Text". If you have other ideas on how to output nice text, take contact, and we will see what we can do.
Console and Notes:
A very new function that is added is the Code Snippets function. On coding forums you often find your self pasting the same code snippets over and over again. In stead of opening your prjects in your IDE all the time, you can save them with this extension, and bring them back just by right clicking and choosing the Code Snippets function. This can save you a lot of time. Of course it is not only code snippets you can save. All text you find your self writing over and over again can be saved and brought back just as easily. Things like writing again and again that things can be found in the FAQ, or that they should not ask for illigal things are all popular things to save in this little editor.E-Mail address:
If you find your self writing your mail address over and over again, it is a fast function for you to save your mail address and then paste it into your messages over and over again as often as you want. Of course you can also edit the mail address easily if you ever get a new address. Just be carefull when you post your mail address. Spam bots keeps crawling the web these days as never before to pick up e-mail addresses so they can send you spam. It can be a good idea to scew your mail address so a human beeing can still read it, but a bot won't get the whole idea. Normal ways to scew your address is: NoteMeste(a)g-mail(dot)com or NoteMester@no-spam-g-mail.com. Just remember to notify the user to change it so it actualy works sending you mail.
